Update on the Revitalization of the Village Core
Since acquiring the properties at the heart of North Hatley in late January 2026, Vie North Hatley has been engaged in a process of planning and community engagement. Our objective is to contribute to the village’s future while respecting its history, character, and the values that make North Hatley such a unique place.
- Consultative approach
- Market research
- Expert consultation
- Work to improve conditions on neighbouring properties
- Community involvement
A Comprehensive Study Phase
To support this work, we have retained the services of a civil engineering consulting firm to assist us in assessing the project’s technical aspects and gaining a clearer understanding of both opportunities and constraints. This process includes:
- Evaluating potential development options;
- Analyzing floodplain boundaries and regulatory requirements;
- Reviewing environmental and technical considerations.
Planning with the Community in Mind
To ensure that any future vision for the village core reflects the aspirations of the community, we have undertaken a market study and engaged Rues Principales, a recognized organization specializing in urban planning and community development. Among its many accomplishments, the organization led the revitalization process for the heart of Lennoxville. Drawing on its extensive experience, Rues Principales will help us enhance this important space while preserving the heritage, values, and culture that define the village.
Revitalizing the Village Core While Preserving Its Identity
Building on the consultation tour we conducted earlier this year, and in collaboration with TACT Communications and Rues Principales, we will continue engaging directly with residents through a public forum. We hope to gather additional ideas, feedback, and perspectives that will help ensure the preservation of the village core’s unique character.
Strengthening North Hatley’s Resilience
While long-term planning efforts continue, we believe it is equally important to take action now. In partnership with a local contractor, we have undertaken a number of initiatives, including the demolition of a dilapidated building, to enhance safety and improve conditions for residents and neighbouring properties.
Vie North Hatley’s Commitment to Community Life
Vie North Hatley’s commitment extends well beyond the properties themselves. We are proud to support initiatives that contribute to the vitality and well-being of the village.
- Restoration of Emily LeBaron Park: We have helped restore this cherished green space so that it may once again serve as the welcoming gathering place it once was.
- Partner of the North Hatley Jazz Festival: Through our support, we have contributed to showcasing one of the community’s most iconic cultural events.
- Improving Access to Affordable Healthcare Services for the Entire Community: We are developing and financing a pilot project in collaboration with the Massawippi Valley Health Foundation.
- Minton Church Preservation: We are partnering with Les Amis de l’Église Minton on a community-led initiative aimed at preserving this historic heritage building.
Looking Ahead
We remain firmly committed to a thoughtful, transparent, and collaborative planning process, and we look forward to continuing our dialogue with the community as our work progresses.
